New Girls' Latrin in our school for comfort and hygiene

The Impact of a New Girls' Latrine on a our Primary School

In our rural Ugandan school we have recently taken a vital step toward improving health, safety, and dignity for its female students by constructing a new pit latrine specifically for girls from Primary 3 to Primary 7. This facility, dedicated to providing privacy and sanitation, represents more than just a structural addition to the school—it addresses critical issues of health, equality, and educational access.

Health Benefits of a Safe Sanitation Facility

With the construction of a pit latrine specifically for them, girls in this school now have a dedicated, safe, and private space to use the bathroom with dignity. This improvement not only supports their health but also promotes their right to equal educational access, eliminating one of the critical barriers that affect attendance and confidence.

Access to a clean and well-maintained toilet facility helps reduce the spread of diseases, supporting a healthier learning environment for all.

Moreover, clean toilet facilities also help break the cycle of shame and stigma that can accompany a lack of sanitation, allowing girls to feel empowered and supported at school.

Big thanks to our donors

Through collaboration with our international this project has become a beacon of progress, inspiring hope for further initiatives to improve the school’s infrastructure.

This project illustrates the power of small yet impactful improvements, ones that address everyday challenges but carry lasting benefits for students, teachers, and the broader community. By supporting girls’ health and academic success, the new pit latrine underscores the school’s commitment to fostering a learning environment where every student can thrive.
